You Don’t Need to Know the Person to Give a Good Gift

Posted by Maggie May Moshe on

Struggling to choose a gift for someone you don’t know very well? Whether it’s for a dinner party, a colleague, a new baby or someone going through something tough, we’ve helped thousands of people find thoughtful gifts that feel personal without the pressure at Thinkers & Makers.

We get it. You’re standing in the shop (or scrolling online) thinking:

I barely know them. What if I get it wrong?
What if it’s too personal? Or not personal enough?
I’ve never even met them! I just know they had a baby... or a rough week... or a birthday.

Here’s the truth: you don’t have to know someone well to give something thoughtful.
You just have to start with care. The rest? That’s where we come in.

We even made a reel about this exact thing — you can watch it here.
Turns out, a lot of people feel the same way!

What Makes a Good Gift When You’re Not Sure?

Something that’s:

  • Useful or comforting (ideally both)

  • Nice to look at (of course!)

  • Well made (I only pick the best)

  • Wrapped beautifully (we do that for free, by the way)

It might be a sweet little bundle for new parents, clothes, a toy, something lovely they wouldn't pick themselves.
A hand cream and gorgeous stationery for someone doing it tough or who needs cheering.
A lovely tea towel, ceramic dish or Mount Zero Olive Oil for when you’re heading to someone’s house for dinner and don’t want to arrive empty handed.

Whatever the occasion, we can help you find something they’ll actually enjoy.

Popular Moments When You Might Not Know Them That Well

This kind of gifting comes up all the time.
You might be:

  • Going to a dinner party

  • Meeting a colleague’s new baby

  • Buying for a friend of a friend

  • Sending a thank you

  • Dropping off a gift for someone who’s had a hard week

It doesn’t have to be overthought. It just has to be kind. And a little bit lovely.

A Quick Note If You're Local

We’re a small family-run shop and not everything we stock makes it to the website.
We try, but sometimes beautiful things arrive and sell out in-store before we have time to list them online.

So if you’re near Caulfield North, pop in. There’s always something new and we’d love to help you pick the right thing in person or over the phone.

Gifting Isn’t a Test. It’s a Gesture.

It’s not about getting it perfect.
It’s about showing up with something thoughtful. Something they can actually use or that they love and wouldn't treat themselves to.

Something that says, I thought of you, even if I don’t know you that well yet. All wrapped in a bow.

You can browse online, visit us in-store, or just send us a message and say
“I need a nice thing for someone I don’t know that well.”
Honestly, that’s our favourite kind of request.

Still feeling stuck? You’re not alone but we promise it’s easier than you think.
We’ve helped thousands of people find just the right thing. (That’s how we ended up with over 600 five-star reviews.

People always tell us how relieved and happy they felt once we helped them choose. We can do it for you too!
